Pixies Pale Ale part deuce!!!
rebrewed this today. made only hop changes. instead of the 3 ounces i used in the previous recipe i ramped it up to 8 ounces. 2 ounces of cascade hops at the beginning of the boil. then i added 2 more cascade ounces 20 minutes into the boil. and with 20 minutes left i added 2 more. and the end of the boil got another 2 ounces of cascade hops. i just wanted to see how the cascade hops would vary over different boiling times. i used the same steeping grains as before half munich and half crystal 40. and added one more pound of LME to brig up the gravity of this beer. total pounds used this time was 8!!! pitched a new packet of safale 05. now i wait!

trying a weird combo today!
this beer should be pretty funky. thats why im not bothering naming it now!
started heating the water with my steeping bag full of one pound of roasted barley. witch is making the water pretty dark right now! bring it to a boil and will be adding 6 pounds of amber LME. and one ounce of warrior hops and cascade hops for bittering. 60 minutes on the timer.. 30 minutes left on the clock i added another ounce of cascades. really kinda a stinky weird mixture right now! 15 minutes left i added my last ounce of hops and then let the time run out. i poured the wort and 3 extra gallons of water on top of the Pixies pale ale yeast cake. basically reusing the yeast i allready had! thats all. i figured why keep posting pics since its allwasy just a pan and water! bye bye!

Pixies Pale Ale!!
this is a standard pal ale i brewed up over the weekend! i first started off with a half a pound of munich malt and a half a pound of carmel 40 malts. these are both put into my steeping bag and the water was brought to 170 then i discarded the grains!

brought the 3 gallons of water to a boil and added 3 pounds of the amber malt extract. mixed it in well then added 1oz of cascade hops for bittering. then you set the timer to 60 minutes! and wait

with 20 minutes left i added another 4 pounds of my amber malt extract and 1oz of warrior hops. then at the end of the boil i added my last 1oz of cascade hops! smells soooooo good now!

this time i used a common dry yeast safale US-05 ale yeast. very easy to use and store and cheap! got the whole batch cooled down to 88 degrees and poured it into the carboy with another 3 gallons of purified drinking water. then pitched the yeast in. couple of hours passed and she was a fermenting!! smells good!

well im trying a beer.. im gonna call it Escondido IPA
last night i brewed a brand new beer with the ingredients ive been putting together. should be a high alcohol hopefully a great tasting beer. i started out heating up my 3 gallons of water with my pound of special B in my steeping bag. once it hit 170 degrees i removed the bag and then brought it to a boil.

i then added 3 pounds of liquid malt extract(LME), 1 oz of warrior hops and 11oz of honey. this boiled for 60 minutes.

with 15 minutes left in the boil, i added 6 more pounds of LME. 2 oz of cascade hops and let the time run down to zero. were i then added the last oz of warrior hops.

got the temp down to about 80, added the 3 gallons of water and pitched my yeast from my last batch of IPA that i made. the yeast is safale 04 english style. i try to reuse yeast about 3 times to keep cost down unless i brew a totally different style. then ill change

into my tub encase of explosion. its happened. with the amount of fermentables in this batch aka sugar it should go crazy hence the tube out the top. it lets foam just run out instead of blow out the top and clog it with the airlock. im gonna let this sit for about two weeks then move it to my secondary fermenter where i might add one more ounce of hops but not sure yet. this is just the first try at this so the recipe might change a bit. cant wait to try this!!! lol escondido IPA!!!

Welcome!!! first off the bat is Hard Cider!!!
Hello and welcome to my newest blog. All about home brewing. I already operate my town house garden blog so i thought id just do both things i love.. Today's first post is gonna be a intro in making Hard Cider!!! Its very easy compared to brewing your own beer. No cooking!!! This totaled out to be about 32 dollars to make 5 gallons of hard apple cider!! Cant wait to enjoy!
first off we start with a english cider yeast. im using a white labs WLP775..

costco had a amazing deal on this organic martinellis for 4.99 a gallon!!!

my carboy and funnel are already sanitized and ready for me to add the juice!!

apple juice going in!!

we us all 5 gallons.. before i put the last gallon in we add the yeast and use the last gallon to wash it down!

here you can see the yeast cloud sinking down the carboy!

put my air lock in and thats it.

put in my tub just in case of explosion. its happened before and i had hops on my ceiling. now i wait then i keg and carbonate. love having a keg and co2. i hear bottling isnt all that fun.

the apple cider is sitting next to my IPA that i brewed a week and a half ago. cant wait to try that. any new brewing adventures will be here so keep a eye out. on another note. found cascade hops on ebay for 6 dollars a pound. bought 5 pounds for 36 dollars shipped!!! my local store is 5 dollars for 2 ounces!!
